Responding to David Davis’ comments regarding continued contributions to the EU budget, Leave.EU founder, Arron Banks said:
“David Davis’ revelation that he would consider paying into the EU budget for preferable access to the Single Market is an incredibly foolish concession by a politician who clearly knows nothing about business or negotiation.
“Earlier this year, David Davis wrote at length for Conservative Home about the negotiation that would take place following a vote to Leave and stated that ‘access to our market is more important to Europe than our access to theirs’; ‘we are too valuable a market for Europe to shut off’ and that ‘everyone knows that the balance of trade is in Europe’s favour’.
“And yet, under no pressure to do so – we have not even invoked Article 50 yet – the new Brexit Secretary reveals his simplicity by conceding on such a fundamental point of contention and throwing away our taxpayers’ money.
“Davis needs to learn quickly. I officially invite him to my offices for training in the new year. Failing that, I hear ‘Negotiating for Dummies’ is half price on Amazon.”
