Peter Hargreaves, one of Britain’s most successful businessmen featured on Radio 4 this morning, extolling the benefits of Brexit. Here’s a brief biography of him.
Born and raised in Lancashire, Peter Hargreaves attended Clitheroe Royal Grammar School prior to qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. He held various roles in the profession and in commerce prior to moving to Bristol. There he formed, in conjunction with Stephen Lansdown, the brokerage, Hargreaves Lansdown from which he is now retired.
Hargreaves’ business achievements are remarkable. He grew Hargreaves Lansdown into a FTSE 100 company (currently the 70th most valuable quoted co. In the UK.) This was accomplished without borrowing or acquisition, a feat never achieved before.
His varied knowledge of UK business, economics and global financial markets makes him uniquely qualified to comment on Britain’s relationship with the EU and the likely benefits which would accrue should Britain leave the EU. His views on the EU have been formulated over the period subsequent to the United Kingdom’s entry into the common market in 1973.
